Rodent control for Stuart homes and businesses
Stuart is the Martin County seat and calls itself the Sailfish Capital of the World, a small city built around water. The St. Lucie River runs along its edge, the Atlantic is a short drive east, and warm weather means rodents stay active in every month of the year. That is the first difference from colder parts of the country, where mouse calls spike when the first frost arrives.
Two kinds of rat do most of the damage here. Roof rats climb, nest in palm crowns and dense hedges, and reach attics along cables, branches and fence tops. Norway rats prefer to stay low, digging under slabs, sheds and decks. House mice take advantage of the same gaps once they are open. Which animal you have decides where we set traps, so a rodent inspection comes first.
Housing stock in Stuart ranges widely. Downtown has wood-frame cottages and older masonry storefronts that have stood for generations, and newer neighborhoods further west have tile roofs, screened lanais and attached garages. Older buildings tend to have worn vents and settled foundations. Newer ones tend to have gaps at roof tile returns, soffits and utility penetrations that nobody sealed after the trades finished.
Local history is a good reminder of how long some of these buildings have been standing. Age matters here. Downtown's older wood and masonry, including the blocks around the Lyric Theatre, which opened in 1926, have had decades to develop small openings, and rodents find them faster than owners do. That is why an inspection starts with vents, foundation lines and pipe penetrations before any trap is set.
Most of our calls begin with something small. A homeowner hears movement over the bedroom ceiling, finds a chewed corner of a pantry box, or spots a rat running along a fence at dusk. Calling early matters because rodents breed quickly, and a single pair of mice can become a crowded attic within a season. Describe what you saw, and we will tell you honestly whether it needs a visit.
Our approach is the same on every job. We trace the travel routes, remove the animals with trapping and removal, then close the entry points through exclusion and sealing so the problem does not return. If insulation or wiring has been damaged, we document it and explain the repair options separately, so the price you hear matches the work.
Businesses call us too. Restaurants, offices and shops near downtown deal with shared walls, alley dumpsters and deliveries that bring cardboard in daily. Our commercial rodent control page explains how monitoring and documentation work for those accounts.
